The 2026 Damai Cartenz Operation Task Force responded swiftly to a shooting allegedly carried out by an armed criminal group (KKB) from the Yahukimo XVI Regional Military Command against civilians on Jenderal Sudirman street, Dekai District, Yahukimo Regency, Papua Mountains Province, on Tuesday, (4/28/2026).

In this incident, two civilians were hit, identified as AA (26) and NM (36). Both suffered gunshot wounds to the arm and thigh, and are currently conscious and undergoing medical treatment at Dekai Regional Hospital. Furthermore, the car they were in was also damaged.

Based on the initial investigation, the perpetrators are suspected to have attacked with a motorcycle.

The attack occurred when the victim was crossing the intersection toward the employee dormitory area at the PJPR Complex. On the way, the victim was allegedly followed by the perpetrator, who then opened fire, injuring them. The perpetrator immediately fled the scene after the attack.

Preliminary investigation results indicate there were no fatalities in the incident, but there was material damage from the attack towards the car.

The Vice Head of the Public Relations Task Force for the 2026 Damai Cartenz Operation, Superintendent Andria, explained that authorities are currently conducting an intensive investigation to identify the perpetrator and determine the motive for the attack.

"Officers have moved quickly to process the crime scene, search for clues and evidence in the field, and pursue the perpetrator. The investigation is ongoing to ensure the perpetrator is quickly identified and prosecuted according to the law," explained Andria.

He added that the method used by the perpetrators was suspected to be a quick attack on civilians passing by, thus potentially causing security disturbances and unrest in the community.
