inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian stated that President Prabowo Subianto is deeply concerned about fundamental issues such as housing.

"The President cares deeply about the common people, including housing, as it is a fundamental need for the community," Tito said on Monday (6/22/2026).

He noted that there are approximately 30 million uninhabitable houses spread throughout Indonesia, making this a priority for the government, which is continuously working to reduce and resolve the problem.

"With the Self-Help Housing Stimulus Assistance (BSPS) program, or house renovation, from the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas, it is hoped that this will accelerate equitable development," the Minister said.

He further explained that increasing the number of private sector projects using government facilities will address the housing problem. Specifically, in Papua, approximately 30 percent of the population lives in uninhabitable homes.

"Therefore, we appreciate the Ministry of Housing and Settlement for assisting the community through the house renovation program and encouraging the private sector to build housing for the community," said Tito.

He added that there are still around 71,500 uninhabitable houses in Papua, with the percentage of uninhabitable houses in Papua Province reaching 32.5 percent, while in Highlands Papua the figure is even closer to 80 percent.

He hopes that this BSPS program will not only improve the quality of life for the community but also assist the local government in reducing poverty.
