Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto has set a target to construct 100 gigawatts of solar power capacity (PLTS) as a central component of his administration’s national electrification and energy self-sufficiency programs.
During the first anniversary of sovereign wealth fund Danantara on Wednesday (11/3/2026), the President emphasized that this massive scale-up is a strategic move to accelerate Indonesia's transition to renewable energy.
"We will implement electrification through solar-based renewable energy, and in the shortest possible time, we will build 100 gigawatts," President Prabowo said at Wisma Danantara in Jakarta, as cited by antaranews.com.
He characterized the decision as a direct executive mandate intended to prove to the international community that Indonesia can achieve energy independence with speed and efficiency.
The President highlighted that beyond solar potential, Indonesia possesses some of the world’s largest geothermal reserves and significant biofuel opportunities from agricultural commodities like palm oil, cassava, and sugarcane. By leveraging these diverse resources, the government aims to drastically reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
