South Sumatra Regional Police Public Relations Chief, Senior Superintendent Nandang Mu'min Wijaya, stated that direct community outreach is crucial for raising public awareness, especially in areas prone to forest and land fires.

"This door-to-door approach was chosen so that prevention messages can be received personally by each family in vulnerable areas," he said in Palembang on Tuesday (9/1/2026).

During the campaign, officers reminded people not to clear land by burning. They also urged the civilians to immediately report any hotspots or potential fires in their surroundings.

"The door-to-door approach is one way to directly educate the community. We urge all civilians not to clear land by burning and to immediately report any hotspots or potential fires in their neighborhoods," said Nandang.

In addition to providing education, the group also distributed social assistance to the elderly. This activity is part of an effort to strengthen the relationship between the police and the community while also building closer communication with the civilians.

Nandang also emphasized that forest and land fire prevention cannot rely solely on the police. The role of the community, from the village and family levels, is crucial to preventing fires as early as possible.

"This combination of preventive measures and community service is part of an effort to build effective communication to reduce the potential for forest and land fires through synergy between the police, the military, local governments, and the community," he said.
