Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) announced on Friday (15/5/2025), that Russian oil and gas firm Zarubezhneft will resume development of the Tuna Block in the Natuna Sea next month.

The project faced significant delays following the withdrawal of its previous partner, Harbour Energy subsidiary Premier Oil.

"We met with Zarubezhneft and discussed the continuation of the delayed Tuna Block project. Zarubezhneft expressed its commitment to proceed next month," said Deputy Minister Yuliot during a bilateral meeting in Kazan, Russia, as cited by antaranews.com.

He added that the Indonesian government would provide full support to ensure the project's success.

Zarubezhneft, which holds a 50 percent participating interest in the block, also expressed interest in expanding its Indonesian portfolio through enhanced oil recovery (EOR) and idle well reactivation. This cooperation was formalized in the Agreed Minutes of the 14th Indonesia-Russia Joint Commission Meeting on Trade, Economic, and Technical Cooperation.
