Inp.polri.go.id - Palembang. The South Sumatra Regional Police and the Palembang City Sub-regional Police safeguarded a student demonstration at the South Sumatra Legislative Council on Monday (15/6/2026).

Hundreds of students from UIN Raden Fatah expressed their aspirations under police protection that emphasized professionalism and humanity.

South Sumatra Police Chief Inspector General Pol. Dr. Sandi Nugroho stressed the Indonesian National Police (INP)’s duty to guarantee freedom of expression while maintaining public order. 

“The INP ensures every citizen can voice opinions responsibly, while also protecting community activities,” he said.

Palembang Police Chief Senior Superintendent Sonny Mahar Budi Adityawan led field operations, deploying joint personnel across strategic points. Officers applied persuasive and dialogical approaches, allowing demonstrations to proceed peacefully without disrupting traffic or daily activities.

Senior Superintendent. Nandang Mu’min Wijaya, the South Sumatra Police Head of Public Relations, highlighted that securing demonstrations is part of the INP’s  commitment to healthy democracy and regional stability. 

“The INP protects citizens’ rights to peaceful expression while ensuring governance and economic activity continue smoothly,” he explained.

Authorities praised students for conducting the protest in an orderly manner, reflecting maturity in democracy and contributing to a harmonious social climate.
