Inp.polri.go.id - Aimas. The Southwest Papua Regional Police have launched a manhunt for seven fugitives suspected of the premeditated murder of two Marines in Maybrat Regency on 22 March 2026, when five members of the Marines were ambushed near their observation post in South Aifat District.

"The investigators have identified seven suspects now on the wanted list," said Acting Head of Public Relations Senior Inspector Jenny Hengkelare on Thursday (23/4/2026), as reported by antaranews.com. 

She confirmed that the suspects also seized two firearms from the fallen soldiers.

Digital forensic analysis of circulating videos verified the authenticity of the attack, where one other soldier was wounded. The suspects face charges under the Criminal Code for premeditated murder and violence resulting in death, which carry a maximum penalty of life imprisonment or the death sentence.
