Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesian National Police (INP) Traffic Corps Chief Inspector General Wibowo clarified that circulating narratives claiming the police are re-implementing nationwide manual traffic fines and increasing traffic fine amounts by 150 percent are false.

Speaking in Jakarta on Tuesday (4/8/2026), he confirmed that electronic traffic enforcement remains the primary mechanism for road safety compliance.

"Information claiming a nationwide return to manual traffic fines and a 150 percent increase in traffic fines is untrue," Chief Wibowo said.

He emphasized that the Traffic Corps continues to prioritize the Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (ETLE) system, using both static and mobile units to ensure objective, transparent, and accountable law enforcement.

However, field officers retain selective authority to conduct manual enforcement under specific, situational conditions. Manual citations are strictly limited to visible violations that pose a high risk of accidents or severe fatalities, such as non-standard exhaust systems, known locally as knalpot brong, illegal street racing, driving against traffic flow, and reckless driving.

Authorities urged the public to verify traffic policies through official Traffic Corps channels, such as NTMC, before sharing unverified information online.
