Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) issued a formal condemnation on Wednesday following the tragic deaths of three Indonesian peacekeepers serving with the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) during separate incidents on Sunday and Monday.
"Peacekeepers must never be targets," the Council said in a statement published by antaranews.com on Thursday (2/4/2026), reaffirming its full support for UNIFIL's mission. In addition to the three fallen soldiers, five other peacekeepers sustained injuries during the recent hostilities along the Blue Line.
The UNSC has called for an immediate and thorough investigation into the attacks, urging the UN to keep troop-contributing countries informed of all developments. Members emphasized that all parties must guarantee the safety, security, and freedom of movement for UN personnel in accordance with international law and Security Council Resolutions 2518 and 2589.
The statement also reiterated a strong commitment to Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, urging all parties to fully implement Resolution 1701 to prevent further escalation in the region.
