inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Narcotics Agency (BNN) emphasized that universities have a strategic position as "prototype of civilization" and serve as the primary defense against drug infiltration.
"Productive age groups and academics are the softest targets and most vulnerable to this threat. Among the 15-24 age group (school and university students), the prevalence rate has reached 2.53 percent," said BNN Head Suyudi Ario Seto on Tuesday (6/2/2026).
He stated that the prevalence rate of drug abuse in Indonesia has now reached 2.11 percent, encompassing approximately 4.15 million people. He stated that drugs are now operating more covertly through social media, digital transactions, and even disguised as modern lifestyle products.
He cited one of the current horrific phenomena: the misuse of e-cigarettes or vapes as a means of smuggling narcotics, such as synthetic marijuana, methamphetamine, and the narcotic etomidate.
In response to the threat of New Psychoactive Substances (NPS), BNN continues to strengthen scientific crime investigations and promote strict regulations, such as the issuance of Minister of Health Regulation Number 15 of 2025, which officially designated etomidate as a Schedule 2 narcotic at the end of last year.
Therefore, in the face of the demographic bonus (2025–2045), Suyudi reminded the public that the explosion in the productive age population must not turn into a demographic disaster due to the destruction of human resources by narcotics.
Suyudi entrusted five strategic roles for students to implement effectively in the Kampus Bersinar (Narcotics-Free Campus) movement: literacy activists, guardians of friendships, promoters of positive activities, digital counter-narrative agents, and campus policy advocacy partners.

The BNN emphasized that the grand vision of "Golden Indonesia 2045" will never be realized without a young generation free from drug abuse. Thus, Indonesian students will play important roles as company leaders, public officials, and economic drivers.
