inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Vice Minister of Religious Affairs, Muhammad Syafi'i, urged madrasas to tighten their child protection systems by expanding supervision and fostering a culture of reporting among students, to prevent cases of violence in educational settings.
He stated that preventive measures need to be continuously optimized to strengthen child protection in various areas of life, including education.
"Going forward, our schools must pay serious attention to the behavior of all stakeholders in madrasas, regardless of who they are," said Syafi’i in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday (8/11/2026).
He argued that efforts to create a safe educational environment cannot simply rely on regulations; they must be supported by a monitoring and prevention system capable of detecting potential violations early on.
Syafi'i explained the importance of strengthening child protection systems, which gave rise to the National Movement for Safe and Comfortable Spaces for Children (Gernas Rana). This movement targets four main areas of children's lives: home, school, public spaces, and digital spaces.
As a concrete step, he requested that madrasas ensure the availability of CCTV in various areas that have the potential to become vulnerable points. According to him, enclosed spaces are particularly vulnerable and require adequate supervision to prevent actions that harm students.
In addition to physical supervision, the Ministry of Religious Affairs is also strengthening the reporting system, allowing students to submit complaints through the Anti-Violence Complaint Management Application (AMAN).
Syafi’i requested that the Ministry of Religious Affairs Regional Offices and district/city offices disseminate this complaint mechanism to all madrasahs.
He emphasized that every report received will be followed up promptly. He stated that students' courage to report must be supported by a school environment that protects victims.
Therefore, a culture of mutual care and support among students needs to be developed as part of a healthy madrasah ecosystem.
"If something bad happens, they must have the courage to speak up. We're building awareness among them to support each other so those who experience bad things will have the courage to report it, and the problem can be resolved quickly," he said.
