inp.polri.go.id – The Directorate of Drugs Investigation of Banten Police managed to find a three-hectare of marijuana field in Kurung Village, Cot Rawatun Hamlet, Sawang District, North Aceh Regency, Tuesday, August 30, 2022.

The location of this marijuana field is only about three kilometers from Blang Manyak Village. The marijuana field is only about 300 meters from the village road. This cannabis plant thrives among hundreds of areca nut trees.

In this three-hectare area, there are three cannabis fields. The forbidden plant starts from the age of two weeks to the age of four months which reaches two meters in height. Before being discovered by the police, the marijuana field was thought to have just been abandoned by its owner.

A joint team from the The Directorate of Drugs Investigation of Banten Police and the Drug Investigation Unit of Serang Police, Lhokseumawe Police, and the personnel of Military District 19 Sawang North Aceh carried out the destruction of the marijuana fields by burning.

Head of Sub-Directorate 1 of the Banten Police’s Drug Investigation Directorate, Commissioner Didid Imawan, said that the discovery of the three-hectare marijuana field was the result of the arrest of five suspects of marijuana owners and dealers from three different areas.

He explained that at the end of 2021, the Serang District Police Narcotics Unit arrested two suspects in Cikande, Serang, with 1.2 kilograms of dried marijuana as evidence. Of the two suspects, officers arrested another suspect in Anyer, Cilegon, with evidence of 850 grams of marijuana ready for distribution.

From the confessions of the three suspects, the team led by AKP Michael Kharisma Tandayu immediately moved quickly to Medan, North Sumatra. In Medan, officers arrested two suspects with one kilogram of marijuana as evidence.

“From this series of arrests, we found a three-hectare marijuana field. These suspects are part of marijuana syndicate networked in Aceh, Medan, Banten,” explained Commissioner Didid Imawan.

Meanwhile, one suspect suspected of being part of this network is still being pursued.

According to Commissioner Didi, so far the Banten Police have been intensively conducting operations and taking action against drug crimes. Previously, in the last six months, the Banten Regional Police had succeeded in uncovering the smuggling of methamphetamine and ecstasy pills with a fantastic amount of evidence.

“We continued to intensify our operations according to the direct orders of the National Police Chief that asks all regional police officers to carry out eradication of drug trafficking and abuse to its roots,” said Commissioner Didid in conclusion.
