Inp.polri.go.idJayapura. The Chief of the Indonesian National Police (INP), General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, and the Commander of the Indonesian Military, General Agus Subiyanto, attended a peace declaration event for the upcoming elections in Jayapura on Friday afternoon (8/12/2023).

Chief Sigit emphasised the cooperation between the police and military in ensuring the security of the elections in Papua.

“We always protect and maintain the commitment to peace. I believe this is crucial and the most important thing is to maintain unity,” he said.

Meanwhile, General Agus said the peace declaration was made jointly by the Indonesian military and the INP with all community members present. The signing of the election peace declaration was led by prominent Papuan figure Herman Yoku.

He expressed the military’s commitment to contributing to peaceful elections in Papua.

“I hope the elections in Papua will be safe and peaceful. We will help secure the elections; we will cooperate,” General Agus added.

Among the top military and police officials who attended the event was the Commander of the Army’s Strategic Reserve Command, Lt. Gen. Muhammad Saleh Mustafa. Papua Regional Police Chief Inspector General Mathius D. Fakhiri and Papua Military Commander Major General Izak Pangemanan, as well as Lieutenant General Richard Taruli Horja Tampubolon, Commander of Joint Defence Area III.

Arriving on Thursday with their respective entourages, both the INP chief and the Indonesian military commander were on a working visit to Papua to attend several engagements. The agenda included a briefing on the security situation in Papua, the delivery of instructions to police and military personnel, and participation in social and health activities.
