inp.polri.go.id - Pekanbaru. The Riau Regional Police's commitment to eradicating street crime continues to be demonstrated as 1,333 street crime cases were uncovered and 525 suspects were apprehended along with hundreds of pieces of evidence.
This success of the operation which was held from January to May 2026 was outlined by the Vice Chief of the Riau Regional Police, Brigadier General Hengki Haryadi, during a press conference on the uncovering of the street crime cases on Wednesday (6/3/2026).
According to Hengki, these uncoverings are the result of intensive police work to reduce the number of street crimes, also known as C3 crimes, namely theft, robbery, and motor vehicle theft.
"From January to May 2026, we successfully uncovered 1,333 cases. These cases consisted of 748 theft cases, 448 robbery cases, and 137 motor vehicle theft cases," said Hengki.
Of the hundreds of cases successfully solved, the police arrested 525 suspects, consisting of 515 men and 10 women. These included 426 suspects for theft, 32 suspects for robbery, including 12 muggings, and 67 suspects for motorcycle theft.
In addition to arresting the perpetrators, officers also confiscated various pieces of evidence. These included 189 motorcycles, 18 cars, two airsoft guns, 29 sharp weapons, 15 T-keys commonly used to steal vehicles, and IDR 48,068 million in cash.
On that occasion, Hengki revealed an interesting fact from the investigation. A number of street crime perpetrators were linked to drug abuse. The motive for the thefts was not solely economic, but also to obtain money to buy drugs.
"One of the cases we uncovered in the Siak and Dumai areas showed that the perpetrators stole motorcycles to get money to buy methamphetamine. In fact, the perpetrators specialized in stealing NMAX motorcycles," he said.
These findings further confirm that drug trafficking remains a trigger for various crimes in society.
Hengki continued, explaining that the Riau Regional Police will continue to optimize preemptive, preventive, and repressive measures through routine patrols, increased police presence in the field, and firm law enforcement against perpetrators.
"We are committed to minimizing and even eliminating public fear of crime. Therefore, we will continue to consistently implement prevention and law enforcement efforts," he emphasized.
