Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Musi Rawas Utara Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) evacuated 16 fatalities following a head-on collision between an ALS intercity bus and a tanker truck on the Trans-Sumatra Highway, South Sumatra, on Wednesday afternoon (6/5/2026).
The accident occurred at approximately 12.39 pm in Karang Jaya District when the bus reportedly swerved to avoid a vehicle fire, striking an oncoming truck. The victims include 14 bus passengers, the truck driver, and a crew member.
"Our team is currently on the ground with the Traffic Police for the evacuation process. Preliminary reports confirm 16 identified fatalities," said Mugono, the BPBD Muratara Head of Preparedness, as cited by antaranews.com.
Four survivors were rescued from the wreckage, with three suffering severe burns and one sustaining minor injuries. Authorities reported that the bus was traveling from Lubuklinggau toward North Sumatera’s Medan when the driver lost control while attempting an emergency maneuver. Officers remain on-site to sterilize the area and finalize victim identification.
