inp.polri.go.id - North Sumatra. The North Sumatra Regional Police uncovered 3,865 drug crimes from January to June 2026. Of these uncovered cases, 4,628 suspects were apprehended, with a total of approximately 5.3 tons of narcotics, psychotropics, and dangerous drugs seized as evidence.

This data was presented by North Sumatra Regional Police Chief Inspector General Whisnu Hermawan Februanto while leading a press conference on the results of the drug case investigations for the first semester of 2026 at the North Sumatra Regional Police Drugs Criminal Investigation Directorate Hall. 

Whisnu expressed his appreciation to the North Sumatra Regional Police Drugs Criminal Investigation Directorate and its entire unit, which he considered to have continuously improved its performance in uncovering illicit drug trafficking networks in North Sumatra. 

According to him, the trend of drug busts in North Sumatra has continued to boost over the past three years. In 2024, the North Sumatra Regional Police uncovered approximately 1.5 tons of crystal meth, which then increased to approximately 1.7 tons in 2025. By mid-2026, the seized meth had reached approximately 950 kilograms.

Whisnu is optimistic that this figure will continue to grow by the end of the year, as enforcement efforts continue to intensify. He emphasized that drug eradication remains a top priority because this crime threatens the future of the younger generation.

The Director of Narcotics Investigation at the North Sumatra Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Andy Arisandi, explained that in addition to thousands of regular cases, his team also uncovered 869 cases through special police operations, arresting 1,077 suspects. During these operations, officers seized approximately 3.2 tons of various types of narcotics evidence.

He added that during the first semester of 2026, the Directorate of Narcotics Investigation also conducted 168 Drug Den Raid (Grebek Sarang Narkoba/GSN) operations, resulting in 82 cases involving 105 suspects, as well as 81 patrols and raids at nightclubs, resulting in the disclosure of five narcotics cases.

As a form of accountability to the public, the North Sumatra Regional Police also destroyed evidence from 29 cases involving 40 suspects, including approximately 35 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, 151 kilograms of marijuana, 20,000 ecstasy pills, and one kilogram of ketamine.

Whisnu emphasized that this success was the result of cross-agency synergy and will continue to be strengthened to narrow the scope of movement for drug networks that continue to use North Sumatra as a transit and destination for narcotics trafficking.
