inp.polri.go.id - Sorong. The Narcotics Investigation Unit of the Sorong Sub-regional City Police, Southwest Papua, arrested a woman identified as FAK (24) for distributing 5.455 kg of marijuana at Sorong Port, allegedly transported from Jayapura to Sorong City by ship.
Sorong Sub-regional City Police Chief, Senior Superintendent Amry Siahaan, stated that the case was uncovered as a result of an intensive investigation by the Narcotics Investigation Unit's Brasko Team after receiving information from the public regarding an attempt to smuggle marijuana into Sorong City.
"We are committed to continuing to eradicate narcotics trafficking down to its roots. We encourage the public to provide information if they witness any suspicious activity related to drug abuse. We will protect the identity of the informant," said Amry in Sorong on Thursday (7/30/2026).
In the arrest, police arrested a woman identified as FAK (24), a resident of TPU street, Malasilen Village, North Sorong District, Sorong City, who is suspected of acting as a courier.
The Head of the Sorong Sub-regional City Police Narcotics Investigation Unit, Police Senior Inspector Rachmat Djakatara, explained that the case investigation began on Sunday (7/26/2026), when the Brasko Team received information that a woman, the target of the operation, was in Jayapura City and was suspected of transporting marijuana to Sorong City on the KM Dobonsolo.
Following up on this information, officers conducted an investigation and surveillance in Sorong Port. Finally, on Wednesday (7/29/2026), the suspect was apprehended while still on board the KM Dobonsolo, which had just arrived at Sorong Port.
"Based on the initial investigation, the suspect admitted to only acting as a courier and was going to hand over the goods to someone waiting in the port parking area," he explained.
Officers then conducted a follow-up operation by taking the suspect to the specified location. However, the alleged recipient was nowhere to be found.
Next, police searched the suspect's suitcase, witnessed by PT Pelni employees. The search revealed 141 clear plastic packages containing marijuana, weighing 5,455 grams, wrapped in brown duct tape and stored inside a maroon suitcase.
"In addition to the marijuana, police also confiscated a Realme brand cell phone suspected of being used for communication, 14 rolls of brown duct tape, eight sheets of black plastic, three sheets of white plastic, and one sheet of purple plastic," he said.
For her actions, the suspect is suspected of violating Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics.
