inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Agriculture is preparing the Indonesian Milk Kitchen (Dasi) concept to strengthen milk supply for the Free Nutritional Meals (MBG) program through small-scale milk processing units integrated with MBG kitchens in the regions.
The Ministry's Director of Livestock Product Downstreaming, Makmun, stated that the concept was also created to support the absorption of fresh milk produced by local farmers while simultaneously expanding the development of dairy cattle in various regions of Indonesia.
"We call it Dasi, meaning Indonesian Milk Kitchen. This is what we want to promote," said Makmun on Tuesday (6/2/2026).
He believes the milk kitchen concept is designed to connect milk processing units with MBG kitchens, in surrounding areas, thereby ensuring greater absorption of farmers' milk.
For example, a farm with a capacity of around 100 to 200 dairy cows could be supported by a small-scale milk processing unit whose products are directly distributed to SPPGs in the surrounding area.
According to Makmun, this model could create new markets for farmers and expand the development of the dairy processing industry outside of Java.
"We've already created a prototype, and with capital of perhaps under IDR 5 billion, we can build one dairy kitchen unit that can then supply around five to 10 dairy farms in the surrounding area," he explained.
Makmun said that dairy cattle development has so far been largely concentrated on the island of Java, so regions such as Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Bali, Nusa Tenggara, and Eastern Indonesia are considered to have potential for dairy farming development.
He added that dairy cattle development is no longer dependent on highland areas because technology allows livestock farming to be developed in the lowlands.
"Now, many industries are also being established in the lowlands, such as in Subang and some in Brebes," said Makmun.
