East Kotawaringin Sub-regional Police Chief, Superintendent Resky Maulana Zulkarnain, stated that police lines have been set up in several burned areas to secure the locations and support the legal process.

"The number of locations where police lines have been set up has increased from 15 to 18. These locations are spread across several sub-districts with hotspots and fires," he said in Sampit on Tuesday (8/11/2026).

Seranau District is one of the areas with the highest number of fires, followed by Kota Besi District and the Baamang Hulu Village area in Baamang District.

The police also discovered a hotspot within the Land Use Rights (HGU) concession area, specifically in Kota Besi District.

However, the police are still investigating to determine the source of the fire, including the possibility that it originated from crops or community land within the concession area, or from the concession area itself.

"The area within the concession is in Kota Besi District. We are still investigating whether it originated from community crops within the concession or from the concession itself," he said.

Regarding the cause of the fires at several locations, Resky stated that his team is still conducting field investigations.

Currently, the joint team's main focus is extinguishing and cooling the fires to prevent them from reigniting or spreading to other areas.

Meanwhile, the suspicion of deliberate action in the land burning is still being investigated through the crime scene investigation.

The police have not yet concluded the cause of the fires until all the results of the investigation are obtained.

"We are still investigating the cause in the field. The team is currently focusing on extinguishing and cooling operations. We are still investigating the possibility of deliberate action based on the crime scene investigation," Resky emphasized.

During the investigation, the police have named one suspect in the forest and land fires.

"This law enforcement is part of the police's repressive measures to provide a deterrent effect and prevent deliberate land burning," he said.
