inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Bangka Belitung Islands Provincial National Narcotics Agency (BNNP) commended the success of the Bangka Belitung Islands Regional Police in thwarting the trafficking of 40 kilograms of methamphetamine in Belitung, which is considered to have saved thousands of people from the dangers of narcotics.
"We, along with the Indonesian National Police (INP), the Indonesian Military (TNI), and the regional government, are committed to combating and eradicating drug trafficking without rest," stated Eko Kristianto, Head of the Bangka Belitung Islands BNNP, Monday (6/29/2026).
He stated that the Head of the BNN, Suyudi Ario Seto, has launched the "War on Drugs for Humanity" strategy, implemented through the collaboration of the BNN, INP, TNI, and Customs to eradicate drug trafficking and abuse in the Bangka Belitung Islands.
According to Kristianto, the BNNP, together with the Bangka Belitung Islands Regional Police, successfully uncovered the trafficking of 40 kilograms of methamphetamine in Belitung last month and arrested several perpetrators suspected of involvement in the network.
"Last month, together with the Bangka Belitung Islands Regional Police, we successfully discovered 40 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine in Belitung and arrested several dealers who were distributing tens of kilograms of this illicit substance," said Kristianto.
He said that the pattern of drug trafficking in Bangka Belitung is beginning to change. While previously controlled by many perpetrators from outside the region, now a number of dealers are native Bangka Belitung residents.
According to Kristianto, this was revealed through the disclosure of a drug trafficking case in Tanjung Gunung Village, Central Bangka Regency, involving perpetrators from Bangka Belitung.
"Three major drug dealers were arrested and sentenced. Two were sentenced to life imprisonment and one to death by the Pangkalpinang District Court," said the Head of the Bangka Belitung Islands National Narcotics Agency (BNNP).
He emphasized that the BNN, along with the police, the prosecutor's office, and the courts, will continue to eradicate drug trafficking to the root of the problem without discrimination.
