Inp.polri.go.id - Denpasar. The Bali Regional Police, the Interpol and Immigration authorities arrested a high-profile British fugitive and red notice subject, Steven Lyons, at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport on Saturday.
"The suspect is a leader of a large-scale transnational criminal organization involved in narcotics trafficking and money laundering across Spain and the United Kingdom," said Bali Police Chief Inspector General Daniel Adityajaya during a press conference in Denpasar on Tuesday.
The 45-year-old was arrested at the international arrivals terminal shortly after landing on a Singapore Airlines flight from Singapore. The arrest is a significant breakthrough in "Operation Armourum," a joint international investigation involving the Spanish Civil Guard and Scottish Police, which previously led to the detainment of 45 syndicate members in Europe.
According to Immigration officials, the automated border control system flagged Lyons as an Interpol red notice subject upon his arrival. He is currently being held at the Bali Police headquarters pending his extradition to Spain to face trial for organized crime and financial fraud.
