Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has confirmed that law enforcement agencies are currently investigating the cause of a forest and land fire that occurred in the Tanjung Harapan area of South Nunukan on Sunday afternoon.

"The cause of the fire is under investigation by the authorities," said Abdul Muhari, the Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center, in Jakarta on Monday (11//5/2026), as cited by antaranews.com.

He emphasized that the immediate priority had been containment to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring areas.

According to reports from the Nunukan Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the fire scorched approximately two hectares of land. A joint task force, including the Fire Care Community (MPA), was deployed with ground suppression equipment and successfully extinguished the flames by 6.33 pm local time on the same day.

As Indonesia enters the transition period from the rainy season to the dry season, BNPB is urging local administrations and residents to remain vigilant. Abdul Muhari highlighted the importance of monitoring fire-prone hotspots to minimize environmental and social impacts during the upcoming dry months.
