The damai Cartenz Task Force confirmed on Wednesday (18/2/2026) it will initiate cross-sectoral coordination following the Ministry of Transportation's decision to suspend operations at 11 Papua airstrips after a fatal insurgent attack on a Smart Air aircraft that killed both the pilot and co-pilot. 

Brigadier General Faizal Rahmadani, the Head of Damai Cartenz Operations, highlighted the need for a localized risk reassessment, noting that some affected areas serve as critical lifelines for logistics and civilian mobility.

"We must engage in more coordinated inter-sectoral activities because these airstrips are the primary gateways for both logistics and residents," Chief Faizal said, as cited by antaranews.com.

While acknowledging the security risks, Chief Faizall pointed out that locations like Beoga have historically experienced minimal aviation interference despite being insurgent transit points. 

The task force aims to balance rigorous safety protocols with the essential needs of isolated communities. Operations at the suspended sites, including Koroway Batu and Yaniruma, will remain frozen until joint security evaluations by the military and police confirm that conditions meet the necessary aviation safety standards.
