inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Abdullah, a member of Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR), urged the Indonesian National Police (INP) to thoroughly investigate the death of BS (59), an elderly who died during the riots in the Pejompongan area, Central Jakarta, on Thursday evening (8/27/2026).

Abdullah asked the police not only to pursue the perpetrators of violence on the ground, but also to identify those suspected of being behind the action.

"The police must investigate this case thoroughly. Who are they, where did they come from, who initiated them, what is their goal, and did anyone give the order? Don't stop at just those who committed the violence on the ground," Abdullah said in a statement received in Jakarta on Monday (8/31/2026).

According to Abdullah, the investigation must be conducted thoroughly and transparently to uncover the chain of events that led to the victim's death. This step is considered crucial to prevent speculation in the case.

He also emphasized that anyone proven to be involved must be prosecuted according to the law, regardless of their background or group.

"If organizational involvement is proven, they must be prosecuted according to statutory provisions," he said.

Abdullah reminded the public that the state must not allow acts of violence to occur without firm law enforcement.

"We must not allow the state and government to be seen as incapable of maintaining order and security, to the point that their primary duties and functions are seemingly replaced by individuals who commit violence through thugs," he said.

BS, a 59-year-old mirror seller, died after leaving his home in the Pejompongan area during the riots on Thursday night.

The case is now in the spotlight, and Abdullah has called on authorities to clearly reveal those responsible for the victim's death.
