inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian government is preparing to ship 2,280 tons of domestically produced premium rice to Saudi Arabia to meet the consumption needs of Indonesian Hajj pilgrims during the 2026 Hajj season. 

This preparation was discussed during a Closed Coordination Meeting across ministries and agencies led by Coordinating Minister for Food, Zulkifli Hasan, in Jakarta on Monday (2/9/2026).

The meeting agreed that the premium rice shipments would meet the consumption needs of approximately 205,420 Indonesian Hajj pilgrims, with an estimated average daily consumption of 170 grams of rice per person during their stay in the Holy Land. 

The exported rice meets international quality standards with a maximum broken grain content of 5 percent and a moisture content below 14 percent, as requested by the Hajj pilgrim kitchen management in Saudi Arabia.

Coordinating Minister for Food, Zulkifli Hasan, stated that this policy confirms national food self-sufficiency while improving services for Indonesian Hajj pilgrims. 

"This year, we will begin rice exports so that our Hajj pilgrims can receive rice from Indonesia. We all support the rice being exported to Saudi Arabia," said Zulkifli Hasan in his statement.

Bulog President Director Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani stated that the preparation of this premium rice is supported by a secure national rice stock, ensuring that shipments will not impact domestic supply. 

The first shipment is planned for the third week of February 2026, with an additional 3,000 tons prepared to anticipate further demand.

The government ensures that the distribution and logistics security of Hajj rice will be coordinated to support the smooth running of the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage and improve the comfort of Indonesian pilgrims in the Holy Land.
