Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. A viral Facebook post claiming that Indonesia’s largest Islamic organizations, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and Muhammadiyah, have jointly issued a religious edict (fatwa) urging their members to stop paying taxes was officially debunked as a hoax on Tuesday (7/7/2026).
A digital fact-check conducted using targeted keyword tracking across online platforms found no valid information, credible news reporting, or official statements from either the Executive Board of Nahdlatul Ulama or the Central Board of Muhammadiyah to support the viral claim.
Both organizations continue to maintain their long-standing institutional stances supporting national tax compliance as a civic and religious duty. The Ministry of Communications and Digital Affairs flagged the social media narrative as entirely fabrications intended to mislead the public and disrupt state revenue programs.
