Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. A viral TikTok video claiming that the Indonesian rupiah has depreciated because the government turned down a financial loan offered by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) was debunked. The misleading video falsely connects independent state macroeconomic decisions directly to speculative currency fluctuations.

A digital verification published by jalahoaks.jakarta.go.id clarified that there is absolutely no correlation between the performance of the rupiah and any rejected IMF credit lines. Monetary experts noted that currency valuations are governed by broader global economic indicators rather than individual multi-lateral aid rejections.

Financial data indicates that the current weakening of the Indonesian rupiah is driven by a complex combination of external macroeconomic factors. Key global pressures include escalating geopolitical conflicts in the Middle East and the sustained high interest rate policies maintained by the United States central bank, the Federal Reserve.
