Inp.polri.go.id - Bogor. The Directorate General of Immigration has detained 13 Japanese citizens suspected of running an organized online scamming syndicate from a residential complex in Sentul City, Bogor.
Acting Director General of Immigration Yuldi Yusman revealed on Wednesday (4/3/2026) that the group was arrested during a targeted surveillance operation across three separate houses on 2 March 2026.
"Our intelligence team detained 13 Japanese citizens suspected of conducting organized online fraud activities," he said during a press conference as reported by antaranews.com.
Investigators seized evidence including Japanese police uniforms, telecommunication devices, and digital scripts used to intimidate victims in Japan via the LINE app. The suspects allegedly posed as Japanese authorities to coerce victims into transferring large sums of money.
Most members entered Indonesia using pre-investment visas, constituting a severe violation of their stay permits. Immigration authorities are currently coordinating with the Japanese Embassy to investigate the cross-border criminal elements of the syndicate under the Immigration Law.
