inp.polri.go.id - Central Papua. The Sorong Class II Immigration Office, TPI Sorong, handed over a Chinese citizen with the initials WS along with evidence including diving equipment, a bag, a spear, and a laptop to the Southwest Papua Regional Police for legal proceedings related to alleged turtle poaching in Raja Ampat.
The Head of the Sorong Class II Immigration Office, Orall Robert S. Wanggai, stated in Sorong on Tuesday (9/22/2026) that the handover was a follow-up to WS' handling of the case after he was previously received from the Makassar Class I Special Immigration Office.
"The foreign national and the evidence have been handed over to the Southwest Papua Regional Police for investigation and case handling in accordance with the authority of law enforcement," he said on Wednesday (9/23/2026).
Orall explained that the case began with a report from the Meos Mansar indigenous community regarding alleged turtle poaching by foreign nationals in Raja Ampat Regency.
The report was submitted to regional officials in Raja Ampat Regency with a copy to the Sorong Immigration Office.
Immigration then coordinated with the Raja Ampat Regency Government to check WS's whereabouts and travel plans through the Passenger Profile Information System (SIPP).
From there, WS was discovered to have planned to travel abroad on September 14, 2026, and his name was listed into the Directorate General of Immigration's Subject of Interest (SOI) system to prevent his departure.
"Immigration from Makassar successfully prevented the person concerned and then sent him back to Sorong," he said.
During the monitoring process, Sorong Immigration then coordinated with law enforcement officials after discovering alleged violations requiring legal action.
Orall stated that his office will continue to coordinate with relevant agencies regarding the supervision of foreigners in its jurisdiction to ensure the presence and activities of foreign nationals comply with statutory provisions.
