inp.polri.go.id - Sumedang. The Sumedang Sub-regional Police, West Java, have named eight suspects in the alleged kidnapping and assault of a man in three locations, resulting in his death.
Sumedang Sub-regional Police Chief, Superintendent Reza Ma'rufi, stated that police found the victim handcuffed and tied after receiving a report via 110 on Friday (8/7/2026) evening.
"When we arrived, the victim's hands were handcuffed and his feet were tied. We immediately evacuated him and took him to Sumedang Regional Hospital," he said.
The victim received treatment at Sumedang Regional Hospital before being pronounced dead on Saturday (8/8/2026) at around 4:00 a.m.
Sumedang Sub-regional Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head, Police Senior Inspector Tanwin Nopiansah, stated that based on preliminary investigation results, the victim experienced violence in three different locations in North Sumedang District.
The first incident occurred at the home or garage of one of the suspects in Rancamulya Village on Thursday (8/6/2026), and the victim was then taken to a boarding house in Jatihurip Village on Friday (8/7/2026).
The victim was then taken to a shophouse on Prabu Tajimalela street, which police believe is the secretariat of a community organization.
"In the first incident, the assault occurred at the rental owner's house, then in the second incident, the assault also occurred at the boarding house. And in the third incident, the assault also occurred at the secretariat of a community organization," said Tanwin.
The eight suspects named by the police are DAF (28), AC (37), RN (37), AS (54), DR (44), DGY (41), DS (41), and DP (43).
Police suspect the incident stemmed from a car rental dispute. The victim reportedly owed approximately IDR 600,000 in unpaid rental fees and was accused of losing the vehicle registration certificate (STNK) for the car he rented.
"We have temporarily detained eight people. We are still investigating and investigating the possibility of other suspects after further investigation," he said.
The police have charged the suspects under several provisions of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code (KUHP), which carries a maximum penalty of 12 years in prison.
