inp.polri.go.id - Padang. West Sumatra Governor Mahyeldi Ansharullah emphasized his government's commitment to eradicating drug trafficking massively. 

Mahyeldi made this statement during a press conference held by the Drug Criminal Investigation Directorate at the West Sumatra Regional Police Headquarters on Tuesday (3/3/2026), in response to the discovery of a growing number of drug cases in West Sumatra.

Governor Mahyeldi emphasized that West Sumatra is no longer simply a transit point or destination for consumption; rather, there have been indications of production activity.

"This proves that we are not just a place for transporting the illicit goods, but also for production. Thus, we have to act together in acting against it," Mahyeldi emphasized to the media.

In an effort to reduce drug abuse, Mahyeldi is pushing for strengthened supervision at the lowest level, namely the village. He emphasized the importance of the role of families and village officials as the frontline in early detection of the circulation of illicit drugs.

The Governor explained that the West Sumatra Provincial Government has taken formal steps by sending a letter to the Ministry of Home Affairs to mobilize elements at the village level more effectively through clear regulations.

"Supervision must be accessible to the people. That's why we sent a letter to the Ministry of Home Affairs so that we can maximize our watch at the village level. We are also encouraging the National Narcotics Agency's 'Bersinar' (Clean from Drugs) program to move from the grassroots," he added.

Furthermore, Mahyeldi warned that the threat of drugs is very real to Indonesia's future. If this circulation is not immediately halted, Indonesia's target of realizing the Golden Generation 2045 will be in jeopardy.
