Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The government officially raised the maximum fuel surcharge to 38 percent on Monday (6/4/2026) for all aircraft types, responding to a global surge in jet fuel, better known locally as avtur, prices caused by Middle East tensions.
"The surcharge for both jet and propeller aircraft is now unified at 38 percent to stabilize the domestic aviation industry," said Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto during a press conference, as reported by antaranews.com
Previously, jet aircraft were capped at 10 percent while propeller planes stood at 25 percent. The adjustment comes as local avtur prices at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport climbed to Rp 23,551 per liter, mirroring regional price hikes in Thailand and the Philippines. By implementing this surcharge, the government aims to cap domestic airfare increases between 9 and 13 percent, ensuring that air travel remains accessible for the public while allowing airlines to recover fluctuating fuel expenses.
The Ministry of Transportation and economic sectors will continue to monitor global oil dynamics to prevent excessive impacts on the national logistics and tourism sectors.
