Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Defense has confirmed a strategic partnership with Japan to strengthen military cooperation in the defense industry and human resource development.
The agreement was reached during a meeting between Indonesian Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and Japanese Minister pf Defense Shinjiro Koizumi at the Ministry of Defense in Jakarta on Monday (4/5/2026).
"We have both agreed to encourage substantive cooperation in the defense industry and in developing personnel capabilities between Indonesia and Japan, while respecting our respective national interests," he said during a joint statement, as reported by antaranews.com..
The partnership aims to facilitate technology transfer and knowledge sharing to enhance Indonesia's domestic defense capabilities, leveraging Japan's advanced expertise in weapon systems.
Beyond industrial ties, both nations committed to expanding cooperation in humanitarian missions and disaster relief. The meeting concluded with the signing of a defense cooperation contract, marking a significant step in bilateral security relations between the two countries.
