Indonesia will not issue visas for Israeli gymnasts planning to compete in the 2025 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Jakarta, Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Correctional Affairs Yusril Ihza Mahendra announced on Thursday (9/10/2025).

“The Indonesian government will not grant visas to Israeli athletes who intend to attend the upcoming World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Jakarta on 19 to 25 October 2025,” he said in a video statement, as quoted by antaranews.com. 

Minister Yusril added that the decision aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s policy and Indonesia’s long-standing stance of refusing diplomatic ties with Israel until it recognizes Palestinian independence.

He noted the decision also reflects strong public opposition, including from religious groups, local governments, and political parties. The Artistic Gymnastics Federation has reportedly withdrawn its sponsorship request after learning of Indonesia’s firm stance. 

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung and lawmakers also backed the government’s position, citing constitutional principles rejecting all forms of colonialism.
