inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesian Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid strongly condemned the Israeli military's interception and detention of the international humanitarian mission Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) 2.0, which was en route to Gaza, Palestine.

The group included Indonesian journalists on assignment, namely Bambang Noroyono and Thoudy Badai from Republika, and Andre Prasetyo Nugroho from Tempo.

"We are following with great concern the news about Indonesian journalists who are covering the humanitarian mission to Gaza. In the midst of conflict, the safety of journalists must always be our concern," said Meutya on Tuesday (5/19/2026).

She emphasized that journalists exist to convey humanitarian voices and facts to the public and therefore must be respected and provided with a safe space.

According to the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at least 10 vessels in the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) 2.0 humanitarian mission were detained by Israeli authorities, including the Amanda, Barbaros, Josef, and Blue Toys.

To date, the ship carrying the journalists has not been contacted, and the status of the crew on board remains uncertain.

Meutya supports the diplomatic efforts of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure the protection and safety of all Indonesian citizens participating in the humanitarian mission to Gaza, which is facing a humanitarian crisis due to Israeli attacks.

"The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs will continue to coordinate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other relevant parties to monitor developments and support protective measures for Indonesian citizens on the mission," she concluded.

Furthermore, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has coordinated with the Indonesian Embassies in Ankara, Cairo, and Amman to prepare efforts to protect and repatriate Indonesian citizens participating in the humanitarian mission to Gaza, if necessary.

"Our prayers and hopes are with all journalists and humanitarian volunteers for their continued safety," the Minister concluded.
