Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Saturday (16/5/2026) that Indonesia is continuously driving ASEAN cooperation to strengthen regional food and energy security against geopolitical shocks, which have disrupted supply chains, severely impacting the prices of energy, fertilizer, and food across Southeast Asia.
"Indonesia also encourages food and energy issues to be viewed in an integrated manner, given that both are interconnected, including in aspects of fertilizer, logistics, and price stability," Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Vahd Nabyl A. Mulachela told antaranews.com.
He asserted that Indonesia is pushing for the active implementation of the ASEAN Leaders' Declaration on Strengthening Food Security and Nutrition, a consensus adopted during Indonesia's 2023 ASEAN chairmanship.
The initiative came after the 48th ASEAN Summit in Cebu, Philippines, where regional leaders prioritized open markets, enhanced supply chain connectivity, and the rigorous monitoring of regional food reserves to prevent potential crises.
