Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has introduced a reciprocal plan to allow China to issue bonds in the Indonesian market following bilateral talks with Chinese Finance Minister Lan Fo’an in Washington, D.C.
The initiative, discussed during the IMF-World Bank Spring Meetings, aims to strengthen financial ties and lower Indonesia’s cost of capital by accessing China’s competitive interest rates, which currently sit near 2.3 percent.
“China is our largest trading partner, so the results of those discussions were very positive,” Minister Purbaya told reporters during a media briefing in Jakarta on Tuesday (21/4/2026), as reported by antaranews.com.
Indonesia plans to issue Yuan-denominated "Panda Bonds" in the Chinese market while offering a reciprocal opening for Chinese debt in the domestic market. Minister Purbaya noted that this strategy has already been used to negotiate better terms with U.S. investors by demonstrating that Indonesia possesses efficient alternative funding sources.
