Inp.polri.go.id - Denpasar. Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sudaryono revealed on Wednesday (1/4/2026)  that several countries are urgently seeking Indonesian fertilizer exports as Middle East tensions disrupt 30 percent of the world’s urea supply.

"International buyers are willing to pay any price to secure fertilizer from Indonesia due to severe trade disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz," he said during the 2026 Asia Fertilizer Conference in Bali, as reported by antaranews.com

Major agricultural producers, including Brazil, Australia, and India, have pivoted toward Jakarta as global urea prices nearly doubled to $690 per ton since January. 

Despite this surging foreign demand, the Ministry of Agriculture assured domestic farmers that local stocks remain the priority. With a national production capacity of 15 million tons, state-owned producer Pupuk Indonesia confirms that internal requirements are fully met, allowing the surplus to serve as a critical stabilizer for the global food supply chain.
