Inp.polri.go.id - Karawang. The Karawang Sub-regional Police have uncovered a growing trend of individuals becoming drug couriers to fund their addiction and obtain free narcotics.
During a press conference on Thursday (14/5/2026)6, police revealed the findings following a major crackdown across Karawang and Purwakarta, West Java, which resulted in the arrest of 41 suspects involved in 31 narcotics cases between March and May 2026.
"The motives behind these crimes are economic pressure and the desire to consume crystal methamphetamine for free," said Karawang Police Chief Superintendentr Fiki Novian Ardiansyah, as cited by antaranews.com.
Authorities seized a total of 1.4 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, 175.33 grams of synthetic tobacco, and thousands of restricted pills. The largest haul involved a courier identified as SD, who was caught with over one kilogram of meth. Investigators traced the supply to a second suspect, DN, in Purwakarta. The suspects face up to 20 years in prison under Indonesia’s narcotics laws.
