Inp.polri.go.id - Bandarlampung. The Lampung Regional Police have deployed specialized units to track down eight detainees who escaped from the Way Kanan Police detention center on Sunday. 

Lampung Police Chief Inspector General Helfi Assegaf confirmed on Monday (23/2/2026) that he has ordered the Professional and Security Unit and the General and Special Criminal Investigation Directorates to assist local authorities in the massive manhunt across the province.

"We urge the escaped detainees to surrender immediately to avoid firm and measured action from our officers," said Inspector General Helfi Assegaf, asa cited by antaranews.com.

Authorities have also called upon the families of the fugitives to cooperate by providing information or persuading the suspects to return to custody peacefully. In addition to the search, the regional police are conducting a rigorous internal audit to investigate potential procedural negligence among the personnel on duty during the incident. 

The Professional and Security officers are currently questioning the guards to determine how the security breach occurred, aiming to prevent future lapses within the police detention system.
