Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. A significant magnitude 5.6 earthquake jolted the waters northwest of the Sangihe Islands Regency, North Sulawesi, on Saturday afternoon (11/7/2026).
The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that the shallow underwater tremor occurred at approximately 5.:51 pm and did not trigger any tsunami warnings.
According to the official seismic bulletin released via BMKG's digital broadcasting channels, the earthquake's epicenter was mapped at coordinates 5.10 North Latitude and 125.48 East Longitude. Automated sensor tracking placed the origin of the disturbance roughly 165 kilometers northwest of Tahuna at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers.
"This information prioritizes speed, meaning the results of data processing are not yet fully stable and may change as additional data becomes available," BMKG clarified in its standard real-time technical disclaimer.
Due to the offshore epicenter being deep in the Celebes Sea, disaster mitigation agencies have not received any immediate reports of localized structural damage or casualties from the coastal areas of Tahuna.
