Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Jakarta Metro Jaya Regional Police launched an intensive investigation Friday (3/4/2026) into the deaths of four construction workers who succumbed to suspected toxic gas while cleaning a water reservoir in Jagakarsa.
"Investigators have conducted a thorough crime scene processing and interviewed witnesses to determine if safety negligence contributed to this tragedy," confirmed Metro Jaya Police Head of Public Relations Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto as reported by antaranews.com.
The incident began at a high-rise site on Jalan TB Simatupang road when a worker collapsed inside a confined water tank. Three colleagues attempted a rescue without safety equipment but were also overcome by stagnant air and heat, leading to their deaths upon arrival at Pasar Rebo Hospital.
Three additional workers survived the ordeal but remain hospitalized for acute respiratory distress. The Jagakarsa Police Office confirmed that the victims, aged 19 to 63, were exposed to hazardous fumes during the maintenance task, prompting a full audit of the project’s workplace safety protocols and labor compliance standards.
