Inp.polri.go.id - Nabire. Military soldiers discovered two homemade firearms at a rental property occupied by seven Chinese citizens in Nabire, Central Papua. The discovery is tied to a broader investigation into illegal mining activities in the Siriwo District.
Colonel Budi Suradi, the Head of Intelligence for the Military Command in Nabire, reported that the search took place on Wednesday afternoon at a residence in Wadio, Bumi Wonorejo.
"Our job is to assist in locating evidence. The investigation into the ownership of these weapons has been handed over to the Satgas PKH," Chief Budi said. He urged local residents to remain calm while legal proceedings continue.
Soldiers found a concealed cabinet containing a non-organic firearm modeled after AR-15, M16, and M4 designs, equipped with a magazine and 5.56 mm ammunition. Later that night, a second modified weapon, which is a PCP Predator air rifle converted to fire live ammunition, was also recovered, according to antaranews.com on Thursday (14/5/2026).
The military's involvement supports the Forest Area Control Task Force (Satgas PKH) in curbing illegal operations at kilometer 95 and kilometer 103 Unipo.
