Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia announced Monday (6/4/2026) that Indonesia has rerouted its Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) imports from the Middle East to the United States and Australia to ensure domestic energy security.
"We have shifted our sourcing to other nations including America and Australia to maintain safe supply levels amidst global tensions," he said during a press briefing at the Ministry office, as reported by antaranews.com
The strategic shift also extends to crude oil, with the government shifting its 20 percent import dependency from Middle Eastern suppliers to African nations such as Angola and Nigeria.
Currently, 70 to 75 percent of Indonesia's LPG is sourced from the US, and these long-term contracts are designed to act as a buffer against volatile geopolitical dynamics. Minister Bahlil emphasized that national energy stocks remain at sufficient minimum levels, while domestic diesel needs are now fully met by internal production, further bolstering the nation's energy resilience.
