Inp.polri.go.id - Yogyakarta. Haedar Nashir, the Chairman of Muhammadiyah's Central Board, has issued a formal request to members in Bali to forgo traditional mobile convoys, locally known as takbir keliling,  for the upcoming Eid al-Fitr.

The request came as the eve of the Islamic holiday coincides with the Hindu Day of Silence, Nyepi. Out of respect for the local tradition of tasamuh, or tolerance, he said that mosques and residents should refrain from using outdoor loudspeakers for the evening calls to prayer.

"On behalf of tolerance, we urge Muhammadiyah members and mosque administrators in Bali not to conduct mobile 'takbir' or use loudspeakers," Haedar said in Yogyakarta on Monday (16/3/2026), as cited by antaranews.com.

He suggested that celebrations be kept within private homes to maintain the solemnity of the Balinese holiday. While encouraging the faithful to hold Eid prayers in open fields where permissible, he noted that mosque interiors remain a suitable alternative if local conditions require it.

Haedar concluded that this rare overlap of holy days should serve as a momentum for deepening interfaith harmony and national unity.
