Inp.polri.go.id - Samarinda. East Kalimantan Regional Police reaffirmed their commitment to eliminating street crime to ensure public safety across the province.
“Police are committed to providing real security by not giving any space to street crime perpetrators,” said East Kalimantan Police Chief Inspector General Endar Priantoro on Thursday (4/6/2026).
He said that street crime remains a top priority due to its direct impact on public safety in East Kalimantan.
Between May 1 and June 2, police uncovered 63 cases of crimes of theft with violence, aggravated theft, and motorcycle theft, arresting 81 suspects. These included 24 motorcycle theft and fencing cases, 25 aggravated theft cases, six ordinary thefts, three violent thefts , and five other cases involving assault and possession of sharp weapons.
Most incidents occurred during early morning hours between 2 to 5 am local time, with Samarinda recording the highest number of cases with 26 cases, followed by Balikpapan with 16 cases. Other hotspots included Kutai Kartanegara, East Kutai, Berau, Paser, and North Penajam Paser Utara.
Police have increased patrols during vulnerable hours, strengthened community security systems, and urged residents to remain vigilant and report crimes via local police stations or the national hotline 110.
