Inp.polri.go.id - Bandung. The Financial Services Authority (OJK) announced on Saturday (2/8/2025) plans to review policies surrounding dormant bank accounts to strengthen financial system stability and clarify the rights of both banks and customers.
This move responds to public concern following the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center’s (PPATK) recent decision to temporarily freeze dormant accounts to curb financial crimes.
“OJK will revisit existing regulations related to bank accounts, particularly dormant ones, to ensure the legal rights of banks and customers are clearly defined,” said Dian Ediana Rae, OJK’s Executive Head of Banking Supervision, as quoted by antaranews.com.
PPATK said that the freeze targets accounts inactive for 3–12 months, often misused for online gambling and money laundering. While dormant accounts remain secure, they can only be reactivated through proper procedures.
Meanwhile, the National Consumer Protection Agency (BPKN) urged regulators to suspend or revoke the policy until a clear and transparent mechanism is in place to safeguard consumer rights.
