inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Coordinating Vice Minister for Law, Human Rights, and Public Order, Otto Hasibuan, emphasized the importance of strengthening the National Police Commission (Kompolnas) as part of the Indonesian National Police (INP) reform. Strengthening Kompolnas aims to strengthen professionalism, accountability, and public trust in law enforcement institutions.
As a member of the Commission for the Acceleration of National Police Reform (KPRP), he explained that one of the KPRP's main recommendations involves expanding Kompolnas' authority as INP's external oversight body.
"This strengthening includes the authority to issue binding decisions, conduct investigations, and oversee the enforcement of the police code of ethics," he explained, as quoted by Antara on Friday (5/13/2026).
He further stated that as INP remains under the president, external oversight must be strengthened. Therefore, Kompolnas needs more effective authority to ensure optimal oversight of the police institution.
Otto revealed that the KPRP has compiled various strategic recommendations to support the transformation of INP to be more professional, transparent, and responsive to public needs. According to him, the recommendation drafting process was conducted openly and involved input from approximately 87 community groups.
"We received a lot of input from the public, and INP were also open in addressing the various issues. This made the discussion process more objective and constructive," he said.
