Papua Police Chief Leads Interfaith Prayer for Peaceful 2024 Election

Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. Papua Regional Police Chief Inspector General Mathius D. Fakhiri opened an interfaith prayer and fasting event to celebrate diversity and seek divine intervention for the success of the 2024 Papua elections on Monday (11/12/2023). "Indonesia does not belong to only one group, it does not have only one religion, it belongs to all religions, to all Indonesian people. Therefore, as religious communities, we must not be divisive, antagonistic or demeaning to each other," he said. Chief Fakhiri reiterated the commitment of the Indonesian National Police (INP) and the Indonesian Military to maintain neutrality and ensure security during the 2024 elections. Reverend Lipiyus Biniluk, the chairman of the Papua Interfaith Communication Forum (FKUB), expressed confidence that such religious activities would contribute to the success of important events. The event brought together various religious leaders, senior military and police officials, and participants from different faiths. Notable attendees included Naval Base X Commander Brigadier General Ludi Prasetyono, Commander of Silas Air Force Base Air Marshal Indan Gilang Buldansyah, Commander of the Pattimura. Military Brigadier General Dedi Hardono, Chief of Papua Police Academy Senior Superintendent  Marison Tober Hamonangan Sirait and Papua Police Chief Spokesperson Senior Superintendent Ignatius Benny A. Prabowo and other dignitaries. The event emphasized the importance of prayer and fasting as a manifestation of the religious community's commitment to support the 2024 elections. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
