Inp.polri.go.id - Wamena. The Papua Regional Police deployed approximately 300 Brimob (Mobile Brigade) officers to Wamena, Jayawijaya Regency, Mountainous Papua, to reinforce local security and prevent potential retaliatory tribal conflicts.

The backup forces were flown into the region late Saturday afternoon following directives from the Papua Police Chief Inspector General Patrige Renwarin.

"In accordance with the Papua Police Chief's direction, around 300 Papua  Police Brimob officers were flown to Wamena to assist with security and restore situational conditions here," Papua Police Liaison Officer for Papua Mountains, Senior Superintendent Andi Y. Enoch, said on Sunday (17/5/2026), as reported by antaranews.com..

He said that public order has begun to stabilize, with local residents gradually resuming daily activities. The current operational focus for law enforcement and the regional government is to maintain peace following the inter-tribal clashes and assist displaced residents in returning to their home districts to fully restore economic, educational, and healthcare activities.
